Creative Antibiotics
Creativeatibiotics was founded in 2000 to commercialize
world leading research at Umeå University and Karolinska
Institutet. The company identifies compounds and develops candidate
drugs up to and including limited clinical trials in patients.
Innate develops Virulence Blocking Agents, a novel class of
antibacterial drugs that may complement or replace antibiotics.
Virulence blockers disarm rather that destroy pathogenic
bacteria but leave beneficial bacteria intact, which reduces the
risk of the bacteria developing resistance to medicines. They may
offer an advantage over conventional antibiotics as drug resistance
is predicted to be less likely to develop.
Three medicines are being developed; Medicines against
Diarrhoeal disease, Sexually transmitted infections and Nosocomial
infections in severe burns.
Innate collaborates with an Indian company, Syngene
International Ltd, in the Diarrhoea Project. In the second project,
Innate is collaborating with Umeå University and University of
Callifornia, Irvine, USA. The European Medicines Agency (EMEA) has
designated Innate's compound INP 341 as an orphan medicinal product
for the treatment of severe burns. This designation can
dramatically reduce the development costs and reach the market
sooner.
Innate has also a collaboration agreement with Griffith
University, Brisbane, Australia. The University has built up a
world-leading collection of natural produts that gives Innate the
opportunity to develop novel antibacterial medicines that may
represent the future of anti-bacterial therapy. A collection of
200.000 natural product fractions will be screened using Innate
Pharmaceutical's platform technology to find virulence
blockers.
