1:st Prize

  • Title of business idea:  Inhibition of Aβ oligomers- new treatment for Alzheimer's disease.
  • Applicant: Anders Olofsson

Motivation:

The winning idea addresses an area within medicine with an urgent need of improved treatments, which means a huge market potential. The idea uses a unique tool, developed by the applicant, making it possible to find a small molecule directed at a promising target for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease.  With a well-structured presentation and defined plan for the next steps of development, the jury awarded First Prize to Anders Olofsson.

2:nd Prize

  • Title of business idea: Exploiting components of the bacterial stress response and AAA/Clp proteolytic machinery as potential targets for novel antibiotics
  • Applicant: Emmanuelle Charpentier
  • Department / Address: MIMS, Dept of Molecular Biology  

Motivation:

Increasing resistant to existing antibiotics drives a huge and urgent need for new treatment approaches. This idea describes a novel approach to target a new selective target that is unique for bacteria and needed for its survival. Business idea presentation was clear, thus making it easy to understand the approach. With additional planning of next project steps, this business idea can represent a big market potential sought by pharmaceutical companies. The jury decided to award Second Prize to Emmanuelle Charpentier.

3:rd Prize

  • Title of business idea:  Alternative to "His-tags" for IMAC-based analysis where "His-tags" is difficult to use.
  • Applicant: Lars H. Trogen     
  • Department / Address: Private, ex FOI

Motivation:

The proposed idea could potentially lead to several different products that meet a need on the market.  With a focus and a clear plan to validate the technique, it could represent a good business opportunity. The jury decided to award Third Prize to Lars Trogen.
